Update On Diabetic Sammy

Regular readers of the blog may remember a post from several weeks ago about Sammy, a diabetic Jack Russell/Fox Terrier mix who came to us from the Humane Society of the U.S. in Billings.  This little scamp is doing just great and continues to entertain us with his antics.  He clearly has the potential to be a star agility dog.

We did have to take Sammy to our vets for a 10-hour glucose curve test to determine if we needed to change his dose of insulin; he had started drinking copious amounts of water and almost became obsessive/compulsive about it.  That's one of the signs something could be out of whack for a diabetic animal, so off to the hospital he went.  It turns out he was on the right dose but we needed to change the type of insulin he was getting, and that did the trick.

Although he'll need to have his glucose levels checked periodically, he's in fine shape.  We're now planning on making him available for adoption soon.  In the meantime, here's a quick video clip of Sammy in my office:

Alayne & Steve,

I am so sorry for your loss of Sammy. These angels come into your lives feeling abandoned and unwanted and from that moment on they know what it is like to be treated and loved like one of God's greatest treasures. Those of us who share our love experience the joy of receiving it back ten fold.

Dr. Dave is treating one of my kids for Lymphoma (Roger is in remission) and I feel so fortunate that he brought his practice to Missoula. I was excited to see that he is assisting Rolling Dog Ranch in treating your kids too.

I know all to well the pain of losing those who leave their paw and hoof prints forever on our hearts. God bless you for the love and care you provide to our angels.

Warm regards,
Nancy

Sammy is so cute & smart as well! He's going to be a great addition to someone's life. He's a happy little fellow. Thanks for posting the video of him. It's cute that he's verbal as well.
Big hugs to all,
ginger & Tobias

What a spunky character Sammy is!
He's SO adorably adoptable, you should have no problem finding him a loving home.
We look forward to seeing a
"Sammy family photo" on your blog!
